“The wife’s position at that time was visible, but she was pinned down. I couldn’t be helped. I could only read prayers in her ear,” said Hamzah.
Hamzah also had to let his wife breathe her last breath in the concrete.Then, the voice of his first child, Bintang, could be heard faintly asking for help.”Sir, please Star.”
Hamzah and a number of soldiers used their bare hands to lift the concrete as hard as they could.They could only lift a little, but were finally able to get Bintang out.The child survived even though his entire body had wounds torn by iron and chunks of concrete.
Amanda, Hamzah’s second child, also survived because the heavy impact of the concrete caused the wall of the house on the other side to fall outward.So, Amanda can be helped.He also suffered abrasions on several parts of his body without any broken bones.
Meanwhile, the body of Lelawani, Hamzah’s wife, could only be evacuated the following morning after heavy equipment was brought to the location.Hamzah could only surrender.
Hamzah had actually been asked to rest by his commander to calm himself down.However, Hamzah couldn’t be sad for too long.Three days later, Hamzah still asked to be assigned again to help evacuate victims affected by the disaster or simply to oversee the distribution of aid.
