“The mud is still very thick in people’s houses. People can’t do much because the mud is difficult to remove,” said Arman in an official statement, Saturday (13/12).
In limited conditions, health workers are divided into two lines of duty.A total of around 60 health workers went directly to the field and stood guard at 14 health posts spread across the 14 affected sub-districts.
“Each post is staffed with 5 to 6 medical personnel, consisting of specialist doctors, general practitioners and nurses,” he said.
Apart from providing health services, Arman said the health workers also distributed medicines and basic logistical assistance to residents, ranging from rice to daily necessities.
Meanwhile, around 25 specialist doctors are on duty at the hospital to handle serious cases.Doctors consist of specialists in general surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, nerves, ENT, and dentistry. They had been on duty at the hospital for two days.
According to Arman, the biggest challenge currently is that the condition of hospitals has not yet recovered. The Emergency Room (IGD) of the Muda Sedia Aceh Tamiang Regional Hospital only resumed operations four days ago, while the operating room has only been able to be used in the last two days.
“Most of the treatment rooms, ICU, laboratory and radiology are still covered in mud,” he explained.
Apart from that, said Arman, health workers also had to grapple with mud about 1.5 meters high. Both medical officers and the TNI worked together to clean the polyclinic room from the mud that was quite high due to floods and landslides.
