“There is a direction from the President for us to discuss the Freeport divestment scheme, especially the 10 percent that is the right of indigenous Papuans. We will discuss it between the governors in Tanah Papua and this is included in the budget framework,” said Velix.
Velix also said that this matter would be discussed further with Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.
Meanwhile, Papua Governor Mathius Fakhiri said that the Freeport divestment issue would first be discussed internally.
Fakhiri said he would also discuss this matter with other governors in Papua.
“Of course we will do this as soon as possible after returning home, because we will hold a GMS regarding Papua divestment. Later we will report to the Minister and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources what the next steps will be,” he said.
Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed that Indonesia would receive an additional 12 percent stake from Freeport.
He conveyed the certainty of the additional shares following the finalization of the divestment negotiation process or release of 12 percent of Freeport’s shares for Indonesia.
“I have declared the additional Freeport negotiations final, with an addition of 12 percent,” said Bahlil when met by journalists after the Indonesia Langgas Berenergi event initiated by Detik and hitclubapk3 Indonesia, at Anjungan Sarinah, Central Jakarta, last Tuesday 7 October.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM and CEO of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani claims the additional 12 percent of PT Freeport-McMoRan shares are free.
“The result of our negotiations is that we will also get an additional 12 percent share. Yes, it’s free of charge, so there are no costs at all. So, the implementation will continue to be finalized,” explained Rosan at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, last Wednesday, October 8.
