Since 1.5 years ago, the RSF has surrounded the city of El Fasher. They also built a 56 km long barrier and prevented food from entering and closed escape routes.
The United States then asked three Arab countries, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Egypt, to help mediate the bloody conflict in Sudan. The US and the three countries submitted a proposal for a cease-and-desist between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to immediately stop the fighting and massacres.
RSF is said to agree with the ceasefire proposal and to open humanitarian aid in Sudan.
Even though Saudi, UAE, Egypt are among the countries mediating the conflict with the US, intelligence observers assess that these three Arab countries are also directly or indirectly involved in the civil war in Sudan, quoted from

A number of observers and human rights activists have accused Saudi, UAE and Egypt, along with Russia, of trying to influence the conflict in Sudan in various ways. These influences include financial and logistical support, supplying weapons, and offering diplomatic support.
The four countries initially supported Sudan’s military when it overthrew the regime of longtime dictator Omar Al Bashir in 2019 and when the military consolidated its power over the country through a coup in 2021.
However, the military factions were divided and fought against each other to fight for power.RSF is led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo alias Hemedti, while SAF is led by Abdel Fattah Al Burhan.
This conflict also forced the countries that supported the coup to choose one of the military factions. The involvement of foreign parties is increasingly unclear. In reality, there is too much at stake.
“Any party that can control Sudan is in a position to wield influence in the wider Horn of Africa region as well as sub-Saharan Africa,” said former US ambassador to Cambodia and Zimbabwe and now head of the Africa Program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, Charles Ray.
Arms supplies from UAE
It is strongly suspected that the UAE often supplies weapons to the RSF led by Dagalo.Human rights observers and activists traced back the source of a number of weapons to the UAE.
There are also a number of companies in the UAE that have strong ties to RSF rebels.
However, the UAE denies these accusations even though a number of experts at the United Nations have categorized the UAE as clearly “responsible” for the conflict in Sudan.
Egyptian involvement
Meanwhile, Egypt openly supported Al Burhan’s coup against Omar Al Bashir in 2021. However, when the two Sudanese generals clashed, Egypt tended to support Al Burhan who led SAF to power.
Egypt even held repeated meetings with Al Burhan to provide diplomatic support
At one such meeting last month, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry specifically supported the SAF.
Egypt unequivocally stated Egypt’s “commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the vital role of its national institutions, especially the Sudanese Armed Forces.”
Saudi involvement
Saudi publicly emphasized its neutral position and asked the conflicting parties to immediately stop fighting in Sudan.
However, observers believe that Saudi secretly supports Al Burhan to become ruler of Sudan, just like Egypt.
Saudi Arabia also played a major role in evacuating thousands of people, especially foreigners from Sudan, several weeks ago.
