Rico has also summoned the management of Pertamina Patra Niaga Sumbagut to explain the problem of fuel shortages in Medan. The reason is, there is a buildup of motorists at several gas stations in Medan.
“After communication was cut off due to a power failure, we also found that there was a buildup of people queuing at gas stations due to fuel shortages. We called Pertamina to explain what the problem was,”
Rico added that from Pertamina’s explanation, extreme weather had made it difficult for ships carrying fuel to dock at Belawan Harbor. After the ship docked, fuel distribution to gas stations was hampered due to flooding.
“Indeed, before November 27 there were strong wind conditions in Belawan which made it difficult for ships carrying fuel to dock. However, after docking it turned out there were still problems with distribution due to flood conditions. So the fuel problem was hampered,” he said.
However, Rico ensures that fuel stocks are sufficient to meet people’s needs. He also ordered Pertamina to improve distribution so that people could immediately get fuel.
“BBM distribution has been improved so that people receive services. Last night until now we instructed parts of the areas still affected by flooding to be evaluated and provide logistics, especially in North Medan District and Medan Labuhan District and their surroundings to distribute aid,” he concluded.
On that occasion, Pertamina Medan Retail Sales Area Manager Tito Rivanto added that fuel distribution in Medan was hampered by road access which was still flooded.
However, he ensured that fuel supply would run smoothly in the next two to three days.
“We are committed to maximum distribution to gas stations. Indeed, there are problems with road access, many of which are flooded. We hope that people don’t panic and just buy enough according to their needs because in the next two or three days the supply to gas stations will be smooth. So that a conducive situation can be realized in Medan,” he concluded.
