Chairman of Commission VIII DPR Marwan Dasopang believes in the losses caused
flash flood
and landslides that hit
Sumatra
and Aceh reached more than IDR 200 trillion.However, he did not specify the basis for calculating this number.
According to Marwan, this disaster is a consequence of government policy which has legalized forest use for corporations for years.
“Now, how much do we actually lose? I believe it is above IDR 200 trillion,” said Marwan at the Parliament Complex, Wednesday (3/12).

Marwan said that Commission VIII from the start proposed that flooding in North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh be declared a national emergency so that handling could be coordinated more effectively by involving various parties.
Because this status has not been determined, he believes that the disaster management command is unclear.He also highlighted the limitations of BNPB which has not been able to reach all affected areas.
“If the magnitude of the disaster is like this, BNPB and the Ministry of Social Affairs are not strong enough,” he said.
DPR Speaker Puan Maharani also acknowledged that there were obstacles in the evacuation and aid distribution process.He said there were still many isolated areas and victims who had not been found.
“There are still many victims who have not been found, there are still many isolated areas,” said Puan.
Even so, Puan said that the determination of a national disaster requires special considerations from the government.The DPR, he continued, followed all input regarding the proposal.
“As I said, today our focus is to ensure that assistance can be provided effectively,” said Puan.
