As of Thursday (25/12), the total death toll in the three affected provinces, Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, reached 1,135 people, while 173 people were still declared missing and the search process was ongoing.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the increase in fatalities was the result of ongoing search and rescue operations in the field.

“As of today, there has been an increase in the number of fatalities by six people, bringing the total from yesterday to 1,129 to 1,135. There has been a reduction in missing victims on the search list which is still being carried out,” said Abdul Muhari in a press conference, Thursday (25/12).
He explained that the joint team from Basarnas, TNI, Polri and volunteers was still continuing search operations in a number of districts and cities where there were still wanted lists.
“The joint team of Basarnas, TNI, Polri and volunteers continues to carry out search operations in city districts where there are still wanted lists. And the number of refugees is currently 489,864 people,” he continued.
Based on BNPB data, Aceh Province recorded the most deaths, namely 503 people, with 31 people still missing and 466,667 people displaced.The impact of the disaster in Aceh spread across a number of districts and cities.
In North Sumatra, the death toll was recorded at 371 people, with 70 people still missing and 13,262 people displaced.Search operations are still focused on several affected areas.
Meanwhile, West Sumatra recorded 261 deaths, 72 people were still missing, and 9,935 people were displaced.BNPB said the disaster affected various districts and cities in the province.
Overall, BNPB recorded that 489,864 people were still in refugee camps.A number of regions have also declared transition status from emergency to recovery, namely 13 districts/cities, consisting of four regions in Aceh, five regions in North Sumatra, and four regions in West Sumatra.
BNPB ensures that monitoring, searching for missing victims, and updating data on the impact of flooding in the Sumatra region continue to be carried out regularly.
