According to him, there are pros and cons to the plan to give Suharto the title of hero, which is normal.
“Yes, those are the consequences. Yes, I think if you have prepared everything, including the pros and cons, the polemics that occur, then Nasdem will look at the positive side,” he said.
However, he reminded that the refusal to give Suharto the title of hero did not eliminate objectivity regarding Suharto’s contribution during his 32 years in office.
“In fact, the figure of President Soeharto has provided a position and role, the meaning of his existence as president which has brought significant progress to our national development, like what we are enjoying today,” said Surya Paloh.
He did not deny that during Suharto’s tenure there were many shortcomings and mistakes.
“But once again, yes, if we want to bring about a movement for change, of course we will try to always place the objectivity factor, which perhaps we all have to respect, as a guide rather than something that we hope will give meaning to our progress as a nation,” he said.
Suharto was included in the list of 40 names proposed as national heroes. The list of names has been officially submitted to the Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Council for Degrees, Service and Honors (GTK) Fadli Zon at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (21/10).
However, Suharto’s proposed name has now drawn a lot of criticism from the civil coalition to the PDIP.
Deputy Chair of Commission
Esti, who is also Chair of the PDIP DPP, believes that there are several aspects that need to be considered.
“There are no points that can then change, change so that he can become a national hero. There are certain things that definitely still have to be considered,” said Esti some time ago.
