Last Samurai Standing
is a Japanese historical drama series starring Junichi Okada, set in 1878 during the Meiji era.The story tells of a former samurai participating in a deadly battle to save his wife and child.
This series stars Junichi Okada, Yumia Fujisaki, Kaya Kiyohara, Masahiro Higashide, Takayuki Yamada, and Hiroshi Abe.

The following is a synopsis of Last Samurai Standing.
A decade after the end of the Satsuma Rebellion in 1878, the imperial government had abolished the status and privileges of the samurai class.
This condition left hundreds of samurai in a state of loss of identity, exacerbated by widening social inequality and the outbreak of cholera.

In the midst of a crisis of poverty and disease, hope and threat emerge in the form of a deadly tournament called Kodoku.
The tournament gathered 292 of the best samurai from all over Japan to compete at Tenryuji Temple, Kyoto, and Kodoku’s main goal was to reach Tokyo.
Each participant is given a wooden tag as identification, and only the samurai who manages to keep the tag until the end is entitled to 100 billion yen.Brutal fighting between participants becomes a way of survival.
The focus of the story is on Shujiro Saga (Junichi Okada).In contrast to the majority of participants who are driven by ambitions of cruelty, Shujiro’s motivations are much more personal.
He felt he had to win the prize in order to save his wife and child who were suffering from a cholera epidemic.
However, Shujiro’s kind heart makes him have to grapple with his moral dilemma, between choosing to help others or focus on saving himself for the sake of his wife and children.
The series is an adaptation of the novel Ikusagami by Shogi Imamura and was produced by Netflix in collaboration with Office Shirous.
