India Bnei Menashe opens its voice regarding the government’s plans
Israel

Hanoch Haokip, a member of Bnei Menashe who now lives in Israel, said that members of his community were very happy with this decision.He said the members had been waiting for a long time to live in Israel.

Haokip currently works for Shavei Israel, a non-profit organization that focuses on searching for the lost tribes of Israel.This organization is fighting for Bnei Menashe’s acceptance among Israeli Jews.
Haokip is one of about 4,000 Bnei Menashe members who immigrated to Israel more than 20 years ago.He arrived in Tel Aviv in 2013 with his wife and two daughters.
After settling in Israel, Haokip had two more daughters.His first daughter currently serves with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).He took part in fighting the Hamas militia group in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
“Our community is doing its best to contribute to society,” Haokip said.
“We work, and are in the military. We are everywhere, in every part of life. We do our best to serve the country and Israel and will continue to do whatever it takes for Israel’s progress,” he continued.
Haokip’s statement came a day after the Israeli government agreed to ‘bring back’ the entire Bnei Menashe community to Israel.This decision comes after the leaders of Bnei Menashe and Shavei Israel spent years advocating regarding their fate.
Under this plan, about 1,200 Bnei Menashe members would be brought to Israel by the end of 2026. A further batch of 4,600 people would follow, expected to be completed by 2030.
The first wave of transfers is estimated to cost around 90 million shekels or around IDR 456 billion.These costs are for logistics, housing and Hebrew lessons.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has stated that the Bnei Menashe community will be located in northern Israel, specifically in the Galilee.
“This is an important decision of the Zionist nation to reunite hearts and families,” said Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
Bnei Menashe is a Jewish community that settled on the border of India and Burma.In India, this community is known as Shinlung.
The Bnei Menashe identify themselves as descendants of the Manasseh or Manasseh tribe.This is one of the lost tribes of Israel listed in the Bible.
