Indonesia (AGTI) supports the actions of the Minister of Finance (Menkeu)
Ancient
Yudhi Sadewa eradicated
imported used clothes
and other thrifting products.
This support was conveyed by AGTI General Chair Anne Patricia Sutanto after meeting Purbaya at the Ministry of Finance Office, Central Jakarta. He believes that firmness is needed from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance in the field.
“AGTI really agrees with what Mr. Purbaya said (eradicating used clothes and thrifting products). We really agree that in essence the decision of the Ministry of Finance, in this case, Mr. Purbaya and the Directorate General of BC (Customs) is right,” he explained at the Ministry of Finance, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (4/11).

He hopes that Purbaya will eradicate imported used clothing from its import level, so that illegally imported products do not enter the domestic market.
“Our hope is that at the direct importer level, even if there are goods that are already at Customs and need further processing, they should not enter the local market… Firmness in the field by Customs is necessary!”demanded Anne.
Anne also offered a solution for destroying these clothes, apart from burning them.He said that illegal used clothes could be shredded and made into recycled materials, such as polyester based, cotton based, and divided according to other types of materials.
Apart from that, AGTI claims to be ready to become a supplier of goods and textile products for traders who have been making a living from the thrifting industry.
“If there are complaints from traders in the field, we at AGTI and all local producers are ready to meet the needs of our fellow clothing traders in the field,” stressed Anne.
“So that we can prepare connectivity between the supply chain from end to end to retail in an obedient and clear manner. We are not anti-import, what is clear is that we want imports of official apparel, official fabrics. Because as we also sell fabrics and clothes, we have to pay taxes,” he continued.
On the other hand, AGTI touched on the discussion of the 2026 provincial minimum wage (UMP). He emphasized that entrepreneurs want sustainability in employment.
Anne said don’t let the UMP discussion only win the ego of one or several groups. In the end, it was actually considered detrimental to job creation in Indonesia.
“The minimum wage must pay attention not only to the prestige of 1-2 unions (workers), but more towards employment opportunities, how many will be formed? Which will be there with the addition of the minimum wage,” said Anne.
