Bangka Regent Fery Insani
said the Limestone City site was in danger of being lost because of the proliferation
tin ore mining
and
oil palm plantations
in the cultural heritage area.
“If this is not resolved immediately then the Kapur City site will disappear and it will just be a story,” said Fery Insani in Pangkalpinang, Tuesday (2/12), quoted from

Fery said, in overcoming the problem of tin ore mining and clearing land for oil palm plantations in this historic site area, the Bangka Regency Government continues to strive to increase the status of Kapur City Cultural Heritage from the district level to the provincial and national levels.

“We hope that the provincial government will immediately designate the Kapur City Cultural Heritage, so that it can be further upgraded as a national cultural heritage,” he said.
He acknowledged that the tin ore content in the Kapur City area is very large, especially on the east coast, so that illegal tin mining activities are widespread in the area.
Not only that, currently oil palm plantations have entered the Kapur City site area, so the expansion of oil palm plantations seriously threatens the existence of these historical cultural heritage sites.
“Currently the expansion of oil palm plantations has entered the Kapur City site and this has threatened the existence of this historic site,” he said.
Fery added that the Limestone City site is located on a small hilly landscape. From the north, the hills at the Limestone City Site are getting higher. The highlands of Kapur City are marked by nature called Bukit Besar which is visible from the Bangka Strait.
This hilly area is a source of water and the headwaters of a number of flowing rivers. However, the environment around the foot of Bukit Besar has now become mining land, resulting in environmental damage and loss of vegetation.
Meanwhile, to the north it borders the Mendo River, to the south it borders Penagan Village, to the west it borders the Bangka Strait, and to the east it borders the Rukam River.
“We hope that companies and communities will no longer open oil palm plantations and mine in this historic site area, so that this cultural heritage is well preserved,” he said.
