“The Regent of South Aceh has been ordered to return home by the Minister of Home Affairs and is reportedly currently transiting in Kualalumpur. The inspection will be carried out upon the Regent’s arrival in Banda Aceh before returning to South Aceh. The exact schedule is still waiting for arrival in Banda Aceh,” said Benny when contacted, Sunday.
He said that since Saturday (6/12), the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Home Affairs team had carried out initial (administrative) investigations into the ranks of the Regional Secretariat of South Aceh Regency regarding Mirwan’s departure for Umrah even without the governor’s permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Mirwan MS previously received attention for carrying out the Umrah pilgrimage in the midst of floods and landslides that hit 11 sub-districts in his area.
Moreover, Mirwan MS has issued a letter of inability to handle flood and landslide emergency responses.
The letter was published by Mirwan on Thursday (27/11) with number 360/1315/2025.Five days after that, on Tuesday (2/12), Mirwan actually went for Umrah with his family while there were still residents in the Trumon area taking refuge in refugee camps.
Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf alias Mualem also previously rejected and did not grant Mirwan MS’s wish to go abroad to perform the Umrah pilgrimage in the midst of floods and landslides.
The request for permission to travel abroad was submitted by the Regent of South Aceh to Mualem on November 24 2025. However, Mualem did not grant it because at that time Aceh was being hit by a hydrometeorological natural disaster.
“The Governor has submitted a written reply that the request cannot be granted or rejected,” said Aceh Government Spokesperson, Muhammad MTA, Friday (5/12).
On Saturday (6/12), Benni said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had not received the Umrah permit during the flood and landslide disaster proposed by Mirwan as the Regent of South Aceh.
Benni explained that Mirwan had submitted the permission or leave to the Ministry of Home Affairs through the governor.However, the number one person in Aceh did not give Mirwan his blessing.
“The governor (Mualem) responded to the request for the permit (umrah) that was submitted, and the governor also responded. In essence, considering the condition of the area affected by this disaster, the process of requesting the regent’s permit to the Ministry of Home Affairs cannot be continued,” explained Benni when confirmed.
