He said that this committee would also support the performance of the National Police’s internal police reform team which had been formed by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
“A sign of the police’s internal readiness to be open, whatever needs to be repaired, we will fix it,” he said.
Jimly said he did not rule out the possibility that his team’s findings would change regulations and even laws if it was deemed necessary to improve the system.
“This means we are still open, here. So any ideas for changes, improvements, if necessary, we will be forced to change the law, that’s what it is,” explained Jimly.
“We really want to gather opinions which might result in having to change the law, so we also have to be ready, but it’s not certain, it’s not certain,” he added.
He ensured that the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission would also listen to voices from various parties, from community leaders to activists. This commission, said Jimly, is also open to holding discussion forums with related parties that it feels are needed.
“Because the police belong to the people, serve the people, protect the people, protect the people. That’s why the president directed this team not to formulate it themselves, we also listen,” he concluded.
