The shooters were identified as father and son, Sajid Akram (50 years) and Naveed Akram (24 years).Sajid Akram died at the scene, while his son, Naveed Akram, suffered serious injuries and was immediately taken to hospital under tight police guard.

A total of 16 people died in the shooting, including the perpetrator.The shooting occurred on Sunday morning targeting travelers who were celebrating the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah.
Police officers have also searched the perpetrator’s house in Bonnyrigg, Sydney.The mother, Verena, admitted that she was very surprised that her husband and son were the perpetrators of the shooting.
She did not recognize the faces of her husband and children in a number of short videos circulating on social media when the shooting incident occurred.
Verena said that her son was unemployed and had worked as a stone worker for buildings.He last communicated with Naveed on Sunday morning, several hours before the shooting terror occurred.
Verena said her son told her he was in Jervis Bay with his father for a weekend away.
“He called me (on Sunday) and said ‘Mom, I just swam. I dived. We will… eat now, and then this morning, and we will stay at home because it’s very hot’,” said Verena, recounting her son’s words, quoted from

He had no idea that his son would be involved in such violent and extremist activities.
“He doesn’t have a gun. He doesn’t even wander around. He doesn’t hang out with his friends. He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, and doesn’t go to bad places. He goes to work, comes home, works out, that’s all,” said Verena.
“People definitely want to have children like mine. He is a good child,” Verena added.
Naveed used to work as a construction worker before being fired last month because the company he worked for went bankrupt.He then tried to find work.
Although Naveed had a number of friends at Cabramatta High School, Verena said her son didn’t socialize much.He doesn’t spend much time playing on the internet.
Naveed said his mother preferred to go fishing, diving, swimming and exercising.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Naveed was tagged in a social media post in 2022 showing that he had completed Al-Quran studies at the Al Murad Institute, Heckenberg, Sydney.The upload was later deleted.
