The reason Zootopia is popular in China
Several things are considered to be the reason Zootopia is so loved and popular in China. One of them is the core story of the animated film.
Zootopia originally tells the story of a fictional mammal city and a rabbit from a small town moves to a big city to become a police officer for the first time, solving crimes with his fox partner.
The film’s plot focus is also on police exposing government corruption in line with the public’s desire for honesty and safety in society, a sentiment that has been the focus of Chinese government initiatives.
“The story has universal themes, inclusion, tolerance, friendship, which can attract the attention of family audiences, both parents and children,” said Jonathan Papish, writer for China Film Insider.
“I also think they were really impressed with the visuals and the world building.”
Zootopia is now preparing to return with its sequel, Zootopia 2.
Various promotions have been held in that country.Standees, statues and photo spots are available at airports, shopping centers and The Bund, which is one of the tourist destinations and iconic locations in Shanghai.
It is believed that Zootopia 2’s box office achievements can match or even surpass the first film this year. From the start, the story of a village rabbit who goes to the big city has deeply touched the hearts of local audiences in China.

In the sequel, Judy (Ginnifer Goodwin), and her enemy who is now a fox friend, Nick (Jason Bateman), will face the reptiles that are actually alienated in Zootopia, namely snakes.
This story is also believed to be able to further boost Zootopia 2’s box office performance in China, because according to the Chinese calendar this year is the Year of the Snake.
Zootopia 2 will be broadcast in China November 26, along with Indonesia and many other countries.
