The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the ship carrying more than 50 passengers to the market reversed on Sunday morning.

Ship accidents often occur in Nigerian waters.This is triggered by less regulated rules regarding the density of passengers and maintenance, especially during the annual rainy season when rivers and lakes overflow.
At least 16 farmers were killed in a similar accident in August 2024, when a wooden canoe that brought them across the river to the fields reversed in the Sokoto state.
On July 29, six girls drowned after the boat who took them home from work in an inverted agriculture in the middle of the river in the state of Jigawa, northwest of the state.
Two days earlier, at least 13 people were killed in another boat accident in the central Niger state.
