Sulistia was also diagnosed with lung problems, such as the appearance of spots. However, his body was no longer strong enough that he became unconscious and was rushed to the emergency room (IGD) at a hospital in Tangerang.
Sulistia also underwent further examination. The doctor then diagnosed him with stage 5 kidney failure. This stage is the final stage of chronic kidney disease, where the kidneys are not functioning optimally.
Symptoms of kidney failure often appear vague. In some cases, the symptoms are often mistaken for acid reflux disease, such as nausea and vomiting.
Urology specialist Professor Nur Rasyid confirmed that nausea and vomiting are often early symptoms of kidney failure that are often ignored.
“People who start to have kidney failure sometimes feel nauseous. Because of what? In the body there is something called urea, which must be removed by the kidneys,” he said.
Decreased kidney function triggers a buildup of urea. However, the progression of kidney failure is often gradual.
“The [urea] rises slowly. Only after the levels are high do you feel nauseous,” he said.
This is what makes many people mistake the symptoms of nausea and vomiting as stomach acid disease, even though it is actually an early sign of kidney failure.
“When he [the patient] was already nauseous, his kidney [function] was already bad,” he said.
