Analysis of the last three months of rainfall has increased significantly, in several areas in the medium to high category.
He also revealed that currently the La Nina climate phenomenon is appearing in Indonesia ahead of the peak of the rainy season. The Weak La Nina phenomenon is currently ongoing and is predicted to last until March 2026.
“Weak La Nina will last until early 2026, but at the peak of the rainy season the impact on additional rainfall will not be very significant. However, high rainfall during that period still needs to be watched out for,” said Faisal, Tuesday (4/11), on his official website.
BMKG noted the potential for high to very high rainfall in southern Indonesia, including Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi and southern Papua. From February to April 2026, most areas of Indonesia are expected to experience moderate rainfall and start to return to normal.
In November-December 2025, many areas in Indonesia will still experience above normal rainfall, especially in northern Sumatra, northern Kalimantan, northern Sulawesi and North Maluku.
The atmosphere remains unstable and supports convective cloud formation in some areas due to a combination of global and regional factors such as weak La Niña and negative Dipole Mode (-1.61).
This increases the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds in several areas, especially in North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Banten, West Nusa Tenggara and South Sulawesi.
Apart from that, BMKG discovered Tropical Cyclone Kalmaegi in the southwest part of Lampung in the Indian Ocean, as well as several other cyclones that had an impact on national weather.
The Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, emphasized how important it is to prepare all government elements to face the possibility of increasing hydrometeorological disasters.
“BMKG has warned that the intensity of rain in various regions of Indonesia will increase significantly and have the potential to cause floods and landslides in several areas. For this reason, I emphasize the importance of mitigation measures and preparedness from all levels of government, both central and regional,” said Dody.
Dody also said that this is not just information, but our shared responsibility.Collaboration between agencies, between central, regional government, TNI, Polri and the community.
