TNI AD Sends Soldiers-Alutsista to Help Handle Floods in Sumatra

(AD) deployed 21,707 personnel to help accelerate handling of the impact of flash floods and landslides that hit three provinces on the island of Sumatra.
These tens of thousands of soldiers are focused on helping meet the community’s urgent needs, starting from logistics, evacuation, establishing field kitchens, restoring public facilities, to opening access to isolated areas.
“The Indonesian Army continues to monitor developments in the three affected areas. This assistance is an initial stage and will be added according to needs in the field. Soldiers are also being deployed to assist with evacuations, open access, and ensure logistics distribution runs smoothly,” said Kadispenad Colonel Inf Donny Pramono in his statement, Sunday (30/11).

In Aceh Province, soldiers from the Iskandar Muda Regional Military Command evacuated residents, opened routes blocked by landslide material, and strengthened the distribution of aid.
Meanwhile in West Sumatra, Kodam XX/TIB increased heavy equipment support and strengthened command posts due to the impact of flash floods.
Then in North Sumatra, TNI AD personnel focused assistance on restoring public facilities and sending logistics to isolated areas.
As part of the humanitarian operation, further aid deliveries were also carried out via Hercules aircraft and KRI ships.
The assistance sent on Sunday (30/11) included multi-purpose tents, velbeds, generators, field kitchen equipment, field stoves, gas stoves, portable water purifiers, batteries, truck tires, body bags, LCR and OBM, Starlink, antibiotic drugs, as well as main and reserve PUO.

In supporting air mobility, the Indonesian Army also deployed defense equipment in the form of 3 Bell 412 Heli units, 2 Mi-17 Heli units, and 1 CASA aircraft, which were deployed to strengthen humanitarian operations through BKO Kodam IM, Kodam I/BB, and BNPB.
Donny said that this effort is the implementation of the TNI AD’s duties in military operations other than war (OMSP), which are carried out in an integrated and sustainable manner.
“We are moving quickly and continuing to coordinate with the regional government, BNPB, Basarnas, Polri, and all related elements. Our priority is the safety of residents and accelerating recovery in all affected areas,” he said.
As of Sunday, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded 316 deaths due to flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, reaching 316 people.Meanwhile, 289 people are still declared missing.
Head of BNPB Suharyanto said the most victims were in the North Sumatra region, namely 172 people.Then, the death toll in Aceh reached 54 people and in West Sumatra, the death toll reportedly reached 90 people.
