Toyota
claims to be ready for the Indonesian government’s policy which will require a mixture of fuel oil (BBM) with 10 percent ethanol (E10).
President of the Carbon Neutral Engineering Development Center Keiji Kaita said that technically Toyota car engines can use fuel mixed with 10 percent ethanol.
“When using ethanol in an engine, you need to pay attention to the component’s resistance to the chemical properties of ethanol itself. However, most Toyota petrol engines are currently ready to be used with fuel mixed with ethanol up to a certain level,” Kaita told the media in Tokyo last week.

According to him, the Toyota company supports the use of ethanol because it can produce better emissions and reduce fuel imports for the Indonesian government.The Indonesian government will implement gasoline mixed with 10 percent ethanol (E10) starting in 2027.

“Each country can adjust its implementation according to its respective climate conditions, infrastructure and energy policies,” he said.
“Indonesia has shown a strong commitment to developing biofuels, with a target of implementing E10 in 2028. We will continue to work together with various parties to support fuel efficiency and realize carbon neutral targets with Indonesia,” added Kaita.
For your information, bioethanol is an alternative fuel from vegetable sources such as sugar cane, cassava or corn which can be mixed with petrol.The use of ethanol in gasoline has been carried out in the United States (US), Brazil and Europe.
Bob Azam, Vice President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) explained that cars marketed in Indonesia can be filled with gasoline mixed with up to 20 percent ethanol or E20 without the need for engine adjustments.Specifically for the Innova Zenix, the engine is capable of drinking gasoline with a mixture of up to 85 percent ethanol or E85.
According to Bob, in the manual, there is written information about the ethanol content standards that are safe for use in Toyota cars with petrol engines.
“Just look at the manual book, it’s there. All vehicles have a manual book, they can use ethanol up to what (percent),” said Bob.
