“Later, we will approach it with a trade agreement so that (Mexican tariffs) are not imposed. With a trade agreement, there will be a special agreement,” he explained after the Strategic International Trade Forum: Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) FTA at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta, Monday (15/12).
“Discussions are already underway, in stages for bilateral discussions. The trade agreement has been discussed, we also met yesterday, but it will be rescheduled later,” stressed Budi.
Budi proposed a bilateral agreement with Mexico in the form of
Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement
(CEPA).According to him, this option would duplicate the agreement between Indonesia and Peru.
On the other hand, Indonesia will also sign a trade agreement in the form of a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Trade Minister Budi hopes that this cooperation will make it easier for the two countries to find trading partners.

reports that the Mexican Senate has agreed to the idea of increasing import tariffs to 50 percent for a number of Asian countries. This was decided on Wednesday (10/12), where the plan is for import tariffs to come into effect in 2026.
Goods that will be subject to import duties include cars, car parts, textiles, clothing, plastic and steel.
Meanwhile, Mexico’s target countries are those with which it has no trade agreements, including China, India, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia.
However, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto denied that Indonesia was affected by Mexico’s tariff policy.
“That applies to goods entering Mexico. So, for Indonesia there isn’t any,” said Airlangga when met at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Central Jakarta, Friday (12/12).
“We don’t import from Mexico. No, no, no (it has an impact on Indonesia). There are no (negotiation plans with Mexico) yet,” he stressed.
