In the midst of tensions between China and Japan, South Korea has now replaced Japan as the number one destination for tourists

.Recently, it has been found that sales of flight tickets ordered by Chinese citizens to South Korea have continued to skyrocket.
Last Sunday (16/11), China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism urged its citizens to boycott tourism to Japan, as a result of controversial comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
On the same day, China’s Ministry of Education also issued a study abroad warning and advised its citizens to reconsider plans to study in Japan.

After this polemic heated up, the shift in destinations for Chinese tourists immediately shifted to South Korea.Based on data from travel agent Qunar, the search volume for flights to South Korea has been in first place since Monday, as reported by
Global Times
.
Following South Korea, other destinations that are also much sought after by Chinese travelers are Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Sydney and Bali.Specifically Singapore, Sydney and Bali search volume increased by more than 10 percent compared to last week.
On Saturday (15/11), Chinese airlines announced policies regarding the handling of flight tickets to Japan, allowing eligible passengers to change or return tickets for free.These include Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Spring Airlines and Sichuan Airlines.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that Takaichi’s remarks regarding Taiwan greatly hurt the feelings of the Chinese people and affected the exchange of visits between the two countries.
Mao urged Japan to remain committed to the four diplomatic agreements between China and Japan, correct wrong statements and actions, and avoid further damage to relations between the two countries.
Talking again about flight bookings, Qunar said year-end travel destinations had become more diverse and spread out, with several countries even showing significant increases, including Sri Lanka which jumped 36 percent and Uzbekistan with an increase of 21 percent.
Researcher at the Qunar Big Data Research Institute, Yang Han, said Chinese tourist demand for international flights remains strong until the end of 2025.
Some travelers who initially planned to visit Japan, decided to shift to other destinations.South Korea has now overtaken Japan as the most popular travel destination among Chinese tourists.
