Donald Trump’s Union will host Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in
White House
on November 10 next.
This meeting was confirmed directly by the White House on Tuesday (4/11) and was said to be part of Trump’s diplomatic efforts to promote global peace.
“I can confirm that the meeting will take place at the White House next Monday. This is part of the president’s efforts to meet with anyone in the world in the pursuit of peace,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said at a press conference.

This visit will be the first time a Syrian head of state has set foot in the White House.Leavitt also touched on Trump’s previous decision to lift US economic sanctions on Syria during a visit to the Middle East last May, a move he said was aimed at giving “Syria a real chance to achieve peace.”

Although this will be her first official visit to Washington, Sharaa already came to the United States last September to attend the UN General Assembly in New York.On that occasion, he became the first Syrian president in decades to deliver a speech at this international forum.
Sharaa, whose rebel group ousted Bashar al-Assad late last year, first met Trump in May in Riyadh, during the US president’s regional visit.
Last week, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said Sharaa would come to Washington in early November to discuss the removal of remaining sanctions, post-war reconstruction and counter-terrorism cooperation.
The US special envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, also said that this visit was expected to be a momentum for signing an agreement to join Syria in the US-led international alliance against the Islamic State (IS) group.
Ahmed al-Sharaa, which was previously affiliated with Al-Qaeda through the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group, was only removed from the list of terrorist organizations by Washington last July.
Since taking power, Syria’s new government has sought to move away from its extremist past and present a more moderate image, a move seen as important for rebuilding the trust of its people and improving relations with the international community.
