The Indonesian government repatriated two
death row inmate
and lifelong British citizens (WNA), Lindsay June Sandiford (68) and Shahab Shahabadi (35).
The handover of the two convicts from King Charles’s country to British representatives was carried out officially at the Class IIA Kerobokan Penitentiary (Lapas), Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday (6/11) evening.

Based on observations, Lindsay covered her face with both hands and wore a white mask during the press conference.
Meanwhile, prisoner Shahab was seen sitting wearing a blue mask.
After signing, the handover minutes of the two then left Kerobokan Prison.Lindsay was seen leaving in a wheelchair and being carried by prison officers.
The return of the two prisoners was marked by the signing of a handover report carried out by Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram together with the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections for Bali Province, Decky Nurmansyah, Head of the Denpasar District Prosecutor’s Office, Trimo, and Deputy British Ambassador to Indonesia Matthew Downing.
I Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram as Deputy for Immigration and Corrections at the Coordinating Ministry for Kumham Imipas said that the transfer of the two British citizen convicts was carried out based on an agreement from the Indonesian Government through the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra and the British Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yvette Cooper.

Then after arriving in England, the Indonesian government completely handed over the handling of the two prisoners to follow the country’s legal regulations.
“The process of transferring prisoners is the Indonesian Government’s commitment to upholding just laws, upholding humanitarian values and strengthening the legitimacy of law in international eyes,” said Mataram.
Health problems
He explained that Lindsay was a convict in a narcotics case who was sentenced to death and had been detained since August 29 2013 at the Kerobokan Class IIA Women’s Prison.Mataram said one of the reasons for agreeing to move Lindsay to England was because the prisoner was sick with diabetes and high hypertension.
“The person concerned has diabetes and high hypertension, which is one of the considerations in the transfer process,” he added.
Then, Shahab, a narcotics convict who was sentenced to life imprisonment and began serving detention on June 1 2015 at Nusakambangan Prison.Like Lindsay, one of the reasons Shahab is considering moving is because of health problems.
“The person concerned suffers from a personality disorder. Therefore, that is one consideration,” he said.
