journalist
filed a lawsuit against Israel for allegedly obstructing journalistic work in the Palestinian territories, including by denying access to
Gaza.

In a joint statement, they accused Israel of “obstructing freedom of information” on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank – two Palestinian territories occupied by Israel.
IFJ Secretary General Anthony Bellanger said the lawsuit was their latest attempt to pressure Israel to open Gaza to the international press.
“For more than two years, the IFJ has called for the borders to be opened to the foreign press so they can relieve the burden on our colleagues exhausted by two years of war,” Bellanger said.
Bellanger said the lawsuit was based on them getting a lot of testimony from journalists–especially from France–whose identities they kept secret for their security.
Quoting from AFP, in the complaint one of them wrote, ”
A journalist was chased by around 50 Israeli citizens armed with ‘firearms, petrol cans and sticks’ while reporting in the West Bank in the presence of Israeli soldiers
.”
According to the authors of the complaint, the incident demonstrated, “Typical elements of a war crime.”
This is the latest of several similar complaints related to the Gaza war in France, over which authorities have jurisdiction in cases of alleged rights violations or crimes against French citizens.
In another case, prosecutors have asked an investigative judge to look into allegations that the killing of two French children in Gaza in October 2023 constituted a war crime.
Violence by Israel in both the West Bank and Gaza has surged since October 2023. That violence by Israel has not stopped even though a fragile ceasefire between the Jewish State and the Hamas militia group came into effect last October.
So far, Israel’s aggression against Gaza is said to have been triggered by Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023 against the Jewish state, which resulted in the deaths of 1,221 people, mostly civilians.
Israel’s retaliatory military offensive on Gaza has killed at least 70,103 people, mostly civilians, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-ruled Gaza region.
Meanwhile, the global press monitoring organization, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) stated that more than 220 journalists had been killed in Gaza since October 2023.
