Russia attacked Ukrainian energy facilities in various regions from Friday to Saturday night.Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk even stated that these were difficult times for the country.
“One of the most difficult wars of all full-scale wars,” Grynchuk was quoted as saying on Sunday (9/11).

Furthermore, Grynchuk said Russia launched a massive attack with ballistic missiles, which are difficult to shoot down.
“It is difficult to recall so many direct attacks on energy facilities since the start of the invasion,” he added.
According to a Ukrainian Air Force report, Vladimir Putin’s country launched 458 drones and 45 missiles.Of that number, 406 drones and nine missiles were successfully shot down.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russian drones targeted two nuclear power plant substations in the western region. The substations supply electricity to the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants.
“Russia is deliberately endangering nuclear safety in Europe. We call for an urgent meeting of the Board of Governors of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) to respond to this unacceptable risk,” said Sybhia.
The State Electricity Company Centerenergo stated that as a result of the attack its power generation capacity fell to zero.
“An unprecedented number of missiles and drones targeted the same thermal power plants that we had already restored after the devastating attacks of 2024,” Centerenergo said in a statement.
The state’s electricity transmission system operator Ukrenergo also announced that power would be cut off in most areas for 8 to 16 hours per day.
A number of experts assess that attacks on energy infrastructure will cause Ukraine to experience heating outages ahead of winter.
Russia targeted electricity and heating networks during an invasion that lasted nearly five years.
Ukraine’s top energy expert, Oleksandr Kharchenko, said if Kyiv’s two power and heating plants were shut down for more than three days as temperatures dropped below minus 10°C, the capital would face a “technological disaster”.
Kharchenko said Ukrainian cities, which largely depend on central heating, should prepare contingency plans to prevent buildings from freezing if heating supplies are destroyed.
