and Ukraine regarding a proposed peace deal with
Russia
ended in Miami this weekend without any major developments.According to Ukrainian officials, a number of crucial questions, especially regarding security guarantees and territorial issues, have yet to be resolved.

Territorial issues and security guarantees are indeed crucial points in every peace effort.Ukraine insists that a just end to the war must include reliable security guarantees, without forcing it to cede more territory to Russia.
As the talks got underway, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists in India that Moscow intended to take control of the Donbas region “at any cost.”
The meeting in Miami was held after Kushner and Witkoff’s visit to Moscow.Trump previously said the US delegation had a “very good meeting” with Putin and believed the Russian leader “wanted the war to end quickly” despite the absence of a concrete breakthrough.
In a social media post Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he held “long and constructive” telephone conversations with Witkoff, Kushner and the Ukrainian delegation in Miami.
“We discussed many aspects and reviewed key points that could stop the bloodshed and eliminate the threat of another large-scale Russian invasion,” Zelensky said.
“We have agreed on next steps and the format of talks with the United States.”
He added that the risk of Russia reneging on its commitments, something that has “happened many times in the past” was a major concern.Zelensky said Hnatov and Umerov would submit a full report in person upon arrival in Ukraine.
“Not everything can be discussed over the telephone,” he said.
The issue of peace and its terms will also be on the agenda at Zelensky’s meeting with the leaders of France, Britain and Germany in London on Monday.The discussions will address “the situation and developments of negotiations within the framework of American mediation,” French President Emmanuel Macron said.
Kremlin welcomes removal of ‘Threat’ label
On the other hand, the Kremlin welcomed the new US national security strategy, released Friday.The document marked a significant change in Washington’s foreign policy and took a more confrontational stance towards Europe.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the new strategy removed language that had previously portrayed Russia as a threat, according to state news agency TASS.
“We consider this a positive step,” he said.
The document says Russia is seen by European countries as an “existential threat,” but positions the US as an important actor in efforts to restore stability in Europe and maintain strategic stability with Russia.
By comparison, Biden’s 2022 national security strategy calls Russia a “direct threat to a free and open international system” in connection with its invasion of Ukraine.
The new document also reiterates the Trump administration’s push to “end the perception, and prevent the reality, that NATO is an infinitely expanding alliance.”
