In recent times, news circulating about use

antacids commonly used for
indigestion
can help ward off side effects
tear gas
.Is that true?
The news was crowded to be a conversation, especially in the midst of the rampant demonstration in some time back.
Internal Medicine Specialist Aru Ariadno said, tear gas contains various chemical compounds designed to interfere with the eye, skin, and a temporary respiratory system.
“This [tear gas] causes irritation to humans,” Aru said, Friday (29/8), quoting

.
He acknowledged, there are several literature that say that ulcer drugs can help counteract the effect of exposure to tear gas. However, clinically, he has not found it.
Aru suspects, this assumption arises because of alkaline antacids, while tear gas is acidic. Both traits can neutralize each other.
“Activists and chemists have recommended the use of dilute antacids, along with baking soda and water, as a temporary action to reduce exposure and irritation due to tear gas,” Aru explained.
Antacids themselves are called safe if used on the surface of the skin. However, if it hit the eye, you are advised to immediately rinse it with water.
Most importantly, avoid exposure to tear gas.If you are in a location that is vulnerable to exposure to tear gas, then cover your eyes and nose with a wet cloth.Rinse the eyes also with running water to suppress irritation.
