Umrah pilgrim bus crashes in Medina, dozens of people die

The Umrah pilgrims’ bus had an accident in the Medina area,
Saudi Arabia
, on Sunday (16/11) local time.
The bus that had the accident was carrying Umrah pilgrims from India.

Local Indian media reported that around dozens of people likely died as a result of the deadly accident, although there has been no official statement from Saudi authorities.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately expressed his concern and condolences due to the bus accident.
“Very sad about the (bus) accident in Medina experienced by Indian citizens. My prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones,” said Modi, quoted from

.
“I also pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Our embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah are providing all necessary assistance,” he added.
The bus transportation mode for Umrah and during the Hajj season is still often dangerous for pilgrims from a number of countries in Saudi, quoted from

Traffic became increasingly chaotic as buses went back and forth on the streets.
In March 2023, a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims caught fire after crashing into a bridge, killing 20 people and injuring dozens.
In October 2019, a total of 35 foreign pilgrims died and four others were injured when a bus hit a truck near Medina.
