Ahmed al-Sharaa from the terrorism blacklist on Friday (7/11).This action came before al-Sharaa visited the US on a historic visit.
The move announced by the State Department has been long-awaited because al-Sharaa works closely with the US.

The move also comes a day after the US led a UN Security Council vote to lift sanctions on Syria.
“This action was taken in recognition of the progress demonstrated by the Syrian leadership following the departure of Bashar al-Assad and more than 50 years of oppression under the Assad regime,” US State Department spokesman Tommy Pigot said in a statement.

Pigot said the al-Sharaa government had complied with US demands, including efforts to find missing US citizens and destroy any remaining chemical weapons.
Al-Sharaa itself has been linked to Al-Qaeda.He has been considered a ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist’ by the US.
Al-Sharaa forces, backed by Türkiye and Gulf countries, seized power almost a year ago in a lightning offensive.
Al-Sharaa himself is scheduled to visit the White House, Washington, USA on Monday (10/11).US President Donald Trump has promised to help the new Syria.
