, Venezuela strongly condemned US threats to “seize” the country’s vast oil reserves through “military force.”

Maduro issued the letter after US President Donald Trump on Saturday (29/11) warned that Venezuelan airspace would be “completely closed,” while Caracas demanded that the US respect Venezuela’s ruling government.
Venezuela’s president said his country condemns the mechanism by which the US intends to take Venezuela’s oil reserves by using “lethal military force” against Venezuela’s territory, people and institutions.
Maduro warned that US intentions violate provisions governing peaceful coexistence between countries and endanger the stability of Venezuela’s oil production and international markets.
He warned that the world is “well aware” of the detrimental consequences that have been unleashed on other oil-producing countries following “military interventions by the United States and its allies.”
Maduro stressed that Venezuela would not bow to any kind of blackmail or threats. He said he hoped OPEC and member states would work together to end this “aggression”, warning that it “seriously” threatens the balance of international energy markets, for both producers and consumers.
The letter comes amid months of widespread US military operations across Latin America, with the deployment of Marines, warships, fighter jets and bombers, submarines and drones, amid speculation that Washington could launch an attack on Venezuela.
Earlier on Thursday (27/11), President Donald Trump announced the US would “immediately” take action against Venezuelan drug traffickers on land, following 21 military strikes at sea that have killed at least 83 people since September 2025.
