This clip attracted attention because of Gofman’s limited background in the intelligence field, raising questions about his capabilities to lead Israel’s highest intelligence agency, as quoted by Yeni Safak.
On Thursday (4/12) last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Gofman as the new head of the Mossad intelligence agency.
Gofman will replace David Barnea, whose term of office expires in June 2026.

Israel reported the appointment of Gofman, who was a Mossad outsider, indicating that Netanyahu ignored Barnea’s two proposed candidates.
Gofman is an official known to be close to Netanyahu.While in office since 2024, he traveled on Netanyahu’s behalf and oversaw the implementation of Netanyahu’s directives in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
As of 2020, Gofman serves as commander of the 210th “Bushan” Regional Division responsible for the Israeli and Syrian borders.
During that time, he was involved in controversy because he approved the assignment of an underage teenager to military operations.
This case makes him potentially face the law because last March, the IDF Military Defense asked military prosecutors to open an investigation into Gofman regarding the boy’s recruitment.Gofman meanwhile admitted that he did not know that the teenager was still a minor at that time.
