has now become a new sight in various corners of Medan City.
Medan Mayor Rico Waas said that after the flood, waste tonnage increased drastically to 6,000 tons per day.So the Medan City Government has instructed each sub-district to be alert in coordinating the transportation of waste.
“We are informing you again. Usually our waste tonnage per day is around 1,500 tons. Today it can reach 5,000 tons. In fact, on one day, three days ago, there was 6,000 tons per day,” said Rico, Monday (8/12).

According to Rico, the increase in waste volume occurred because almost all residents’ houses in the affected areas were filled with mud and items that could no longer be used.Starting from furniture, clothing, to household equipment.
“Because of what? In the houses of the affected people, many items were damaged and thrown away. That’s why we also see a buildup of rubbish on several roads and sections of our roads. Now we are still in the process of cleaning up the rubbish,” said Rico.
Rico said the flood made residents’ houses muddy. For this reason, he instructed the Medan City Fire and Rescue Service to help residents clean their houses.
“Of course there is a lot of mud and rubbish. We do the cleaning. We help through the Fire Department, and also regional colleagues to help clean up areas of the house,” explained Rico.
Apart from that, Rico also instructed community health centers, hospitals and health facilities in Medan City to serve people who are sick as a result of being affected by the flood.
“Of course, there will definitely be people affected by the flood who are sick. We have data that some are sick, namely skin, diarrhea, dizziness, shock. There are also those who may have been injured, undergoing surgery, and were also submerged in the flood, so they had to be operated on again. We ask all hospitals to treat these patients,” he explained.
Furthermore, Rico also ensured that the Medan City Government, through the Medan City Dukcapil Disukcapil and Districts throughout Medan City, would serve people whose personal documents had been damaged by being submerged in the flood.
“Then, we will help with all the community documents that were submerged in the flood, from family cards, KTPs, children’s identity cards, and so on. They must be prioritized so they can be recovered. We will help them all,” said Rico.
It was discussed how much the estimated loss for the city of Medan was due to this major flood.Rico said that his party was still calculating the Medan City Government and the Medan City BPBD at this time.
“The estimated losses are still the same in the calculations. Because there are damaged houses, impacts on places of worship, damaged roads, we have to data this. Until now we are still collecting data with BPBD colleagues,” said Rico.
