There are various choices of fuel oil (
BBM
) type of gasoline for motorbikes.Types of fuel have Octane levels that adjust to engine specifications, and it is not recommended to mix gasoline with different octanes.
The octane content or RON (Research Octane Number) in each petrol is different, but generally starts from 90 to 98. So, to choose petrol with a RON that is suitable for motorbikes, we are advised to follow the manual’s instructions by adjusting the engine compression ratio.
Please remember, using too low an RON can make it difficult to maximize motor performance, whereas using too high an RON can cause the engine to tickle and the engine temperature to rise quickly (hot).

Apart from that, manufacturers also do not recommend consumers to mix fuel, especially with different octanes.For example, RON 90 fuel is mixed with RON 95 or 98 fuel because it has the potential to reduce vehicle performance.

Tri Yuswidjajanto Zaenuri, lecturer in mechanical engineering at ITB, said that mixing fuel has a negative effect.For example, fuel with Pertamina labels such as Premium, Pertalite, Pertamax and Pertamax Turbo.
Each has different contents, such as the additives in Pertalite, Pertamax and Pertamax Turbo.Meanwhile, Premium has no additives.
“Then the dosage (of additives) will decrease by half. In terms of octane, maybe we can get it if we mix (gasoline), but the danger is that the deposit (scale) will actually increase,” said Tri.
The additive in question is a detergent that functions to clean deposits that appear, starting from the fuel inlet channel, to the combustion products in the combustion chamber.
The more deposits left behind can of course damage the machine.This can happen to the valve which makes it dirty.If left for too long, the effect will spread to other components such as the piston.In the end, the engine stalled and couldn’t start.
So, there are two ways you can do it when you want to change the BBM RON.
The first step is to empty the fuel tank first and the second method is to mix it directly.Then when refilling, fill in the new RON fuel completely.In this way, it is believed that you will experience direct benefits due to the correct use of RON.
