rejects the Minister’s version of the proposed 2026 provincial minimum wage (UMP) increase formula

The President of the KSPI who is also the President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, said he had heard that certain indices in the 2026 UMP were proposed to be lowered to 0.2-0.7.Even though last year President Prabowo Subianto decided that a certain index was close to 0.9.
“Certain indices are the president’s prerogative, not decided by a group of people outside of the constitutional mandate. If a particular index is lowered, it means that the Minister of Manpower is actually protecting black entrepreneurs who want to pay low wages,” said Iqbal through an official statement, Sunday (9/11).

He emphasized that based on Constitutional Court Decision Number 168/PUU-XXI/2023, minimum wage increases must refer to economic growth, inflation and certain indices.
Inflation from October 2024 to September 2025 will average 2.65 percent and economic growth 5.12 percent.Certain indices are the president’s prerogative.
KSPI and the Labor Party also rejected Apindo’s proposal which wanted a certain index of only 0.1-0.5.
“If you use this formula, the increase in wages will be very small, even below decent living requirements,” he said.
He emphasized that KPI and the Labor Party will continue to fight for an increase in the minimum wage of 8.5 percent to 10.5 percent as a form of economic justice and support for the working class.
“The figure of 8.5 to 10.5 percent is the reference for labor unions in all regions, both in the provincial and district/city Wage Councils. Apart from that, we are also fighting for a sectoral minimum wage whose value must be greater than the UMK,” said Said Iqbal.
