President of Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelensky
said his government was ready to hold elections within three months, if the United States and its other allies could guarantee security during the election process.
Zelensky’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump accused Ukraine of using the pretext of war with Russia as an excuse to avoid elections.

Under Ukrainian law, elections are prohibited from being held in times of war.Apart from that, Zelensky’s term as president was supposed to end last year.
“I am ready for the elections, and moreover I ask that the US help me, perhaps together with European colleagues, to ensure election security,” Zelensky was quoted as saying

.
“And then in the next 60-90 days, Ukraine will be ready to hold elections,” he added.
Earlier in an interview with a media outlet, Trump said Ukraine talked about democracy, but it was at a point where “it’s no longer a democracy”.
But Zelensky denied the accusations and dismissed suggestions that he was “clinging to power” as completely unfounded.
Russian and Ukrainian government officials have rejected the idea of holding elections, as Russian airstrikes continue across the country.
Meanwhile, opinion polls show that while Ukrainians oppose holding elections during wartime, they want new faces on the political bench.
